Hip-Hop 101......RIP Michael Jackson

The following post is just a collection of tracks that have used MJ samples, just to show how much of an influence he had on nearly every genre of music.

'Jay-Z - Izzo (H.O.V.A.)' Sample Credit 'Jackson 5 - I Want You Back'

'Nas - It Ain't Hard To Tell' Sample Credit 'Michael Jackson - Human Nature'

'Ghostface Killah (Feat. Sun God) - Street Opera' Sample Credit 'Michael Jackson - Ain't No Sunshine'

Whether you liked his music or not, one thing everyone has to appreciate is the legacy he left behind, hopefully people will remember him for this rather than the controversey surrounding his private life.

RIP The King Of Pop

P.S. waste comments/jokes will not be tolerated and will be deleted :)

The Take

just finished watching two back to back episodes of the new East-End London Gangster drama, hosted on sky one called The Take.

it takes a look inside the lives of two best friends Freddy and Jimmy (typical bold print cockney hard men names lol), who are both poles apart in idea's, moral's and lifestyles, like yin and yang, but the better one can never seem to shake off the poision, thus causing a lot of havoc around the east end.

some gritty scenes, cold but realistic actors and unconventional good old british screenplay along with all the little details which have been carefully crafted to take a step back in time to the 80's, with shell suits, ford capris and even a bit of UB40.

a very good watch indeed.

Eclectricity Pics

Last weekend saw the usual massive Eclectricity bank holiday extravaganza at the Custard Factory, with a slight twist.... along side me was my sister, to experience her first club night out, and her first AAA Pass event with the camera at the helm, to snap major crowd and artist shots to be used for future promotion alongside Eclectricity, and heres are some of the great shots from the night featuring Chase and Status, Annie Mac, Rye Rye, Mary Anne Hobbs, Friendly Fires and The Scratch Perverts...

theres more where that came from-

Residing between Landaan Ta'an and The Caribbean, this collective bring some noiize and low frequencies for all sound systems pounding through the summer.

colourful electro influences bouncing around dirty dancehall rhymths and heavy reggae one drops, these may well be worth the trip down the capital to catch some vibes with.

just some alternative underground beats for you to all appreciate

Rye Rye

..in the melting pot alongside M.I.A and Santigold (now changed name after a lawsuit from a jeweller ) Rye Rye offers an energectic, party sound system small excluve catalouge of thumpin' tunes, and actually has a good musucal relationship with MIA, as theyve collaborated more than once to provide us with some urban sound waves.

after a delve into her sounds a few months ago, i was suprised ...no more excited when i found out she'd be performing at Eclectricity last night.....couple of seconds later she walks past and gives us lads a cheeky smile haha.. i managed to slip out whilst on the door to catch a good ten minutes of her slot whereby she was bouncing around the stage in some flourescent colours, belting out these new wave type female vocals over the bellowing bass, and i was cheesin'. anything in your face and this colourful has my vote. Amy managed to grab quite a few pics from the night, and Rye Rye seemed the most camera friendly...

her sounds resembles a new formed Roxanne Shante,or JJ Fad, providing us with shit to shout along to, rather than provokative topics etc....

Shepard Fairey

this man is most definately an idol of mine.

you all know his media-assault-"Andre The Giant"-goes-big-brother image, and how his work has affected politics, social and public thinking/creativity.
but what i think shines about this man above any other artist is his understanding of modern life, and his un-biased outlook on not just america, but the rest of the world.

understanding what one image means, and being able to answer to the people that think your work is an eye sore is something Fairey knows how to handle, and not only project his reasons and intentions well, but also take effect upon people that, as he describes, are "sleep walking through life" that conform to propaganda, that dont care about huge corporate-in-your-face- media, but will gladly point out posters/stickers that are unfamiliar to those that have authorities methods.

he also talks a lot in connection with music, and mainly his admiration for punk, whereby his art shares similar conventions witht the sounds of the genre. both have simple tools and structures to convey wide scale messages, but at the same time, an untamed approach to conveying them to the public eye.

in a nutshell, Fairey has captured issues that some people think are out of their control, and placed them in a questionable state of action.

Legend x

Angry VIdeogame Nerd

Been watchin this for a while now. My mate at uni introduced it to me like last year. Created by James D. Rolfe AKA the Angry Video Game Nerd AKA AVGN, the videos are basically reviews of really old NES titles, mostly from the late 70's and and 80's. Sometimes he does reviews of sega games too, but leaves out most of the recent stuff that arrived with the playstation and xbox. Most of the video reviews eventually disintergrate into the AVGN getting really pissed off and swearing profusely about how hard and unplayable most of these retro games are. This guys got a crazy imagination, cause some of his anger phrases are so explicit you can only laugh:

"I’d rather fuck a porcupine and shove a cactus up my ass. I’d rather slurp crap oozing out of a warthogs anus hole!"

"I want to nail Roger Rabbit to the fucking cross!"

"I'd rather fuckin' 69 a grizzly bear while shoving King Kong up my ass! I'd rather fuckin' stand in the middle of a ring of monkeys as they pelt me to death with their own anal waste!"

I actually think that the guys got turrets. His NES collection is pretty impressive though, actually its more than impressive. The guys got everything.

The guy started off making these videos and then poseting them on youtube, but then he got approached by MTV's gametrailers and now makes all his videos for their website. Its just real cool to get an insight into what games were like when i was too small to actually apreciate them. I think it would probably be alot more popular if it wasnt for the language and the sheer outrageousness of the AVGN.

The guys got his own website where he posts some of his other home made videos. Worth a watch too. The humour is pretty weird, so i would imagine that alot of you probably wont have seen anything like it.

I reckon the guy is an unsung internet legend.

A personal favourite.

Pac Man vs Hitman

Text from skysports:

"Ricky Hatton's pound-for-pound dream has been wrecked inside two shocking rounds.

Manny Pacquiao put the Hitman down twice in the first before ending a one-sided contest with a chilling left hook one second from the end of the second.

It was such a bad knockout that Hatton was out before he hit the canvas and he needed treatment before finally 0 thankfully - getting to his feet.

Whether he climbs back into a boxing ring again, is doubtful.

Hatton did no interviews, had to be helped from the ring and was surely headed for hospital. And possible retirement.

When his head clears he will realise that the performance was a complete and utter disaster. He came to Vegas dreaming of being crowned the best boxer on the planet. He will leave after an absolute nightmare.

At least it was a short one. Freddie Roach's initial three-round prediction was not far off the mark in the end. Pacquiao's trainer also said it was too late for the Hitman to change his style - and that was just as accurate"

City Rats

A brand new British film Released in cinemas on he 24th of April and on DVD on the 27th. Stars Danny Dyer and Tamer Hassain who previously worked together in The Business as well as many other well known British actors. On a shoes string budget producer Steve Kelly definatly had his work cut out and much of the movie was made through favours and simply the privelage of making such a film.

Im not going to spoil the plot incase you decide to watch it, its generally a good story with just a couple of very questionable areas although i supose this stuff does happen in real life. The Acting is on a high level with exceptional performances from Hassain and Susan Lynch and some method acting from Dyer who actually took to drinking a few cans of Tenants before each days work.

A very Gritty film definatly worth a watch.

Life isn't like it is in the movies...

Current TV

i dont really choose to watch any TV anymore, but if i do find myself having a gander across a wide array of american "shitcoms", "reality" TV, or burnt out so called "celebrity" competitions that suffocate our box set, ill always find faith in dropping upon Google fuelled Current TV.

Current Tv hosts a wide array o short films, underground music videos, "Pods" which are like short documentaries, and then just silly alternative ideas thatve been put onto film for amusement. Either way, theres always something interestng, or just a break-from-the-norm away from the hypnotism thats on any conventional channel.

the channel itself consists of categories, or countdowns during the day, such as "top ten heroes or villians" which last night looked at heroes like an African born child rebel, turned rapper in London, villians like the UK's largest import dealer of cocaine who managed to slip prison, Englands toughest bloke who ran for an MP campaign, or Football hooligans turned preachers,Glasgows knife crime youth, and then just cool shit like Harlems street bike gangs, who tear up NY with their on the edge moves on a cycle, or Paris' Electro street dance movement, all of which are filmed by viewers, for viewers with no bullshit, script or anything fony...

what helps is the witty, down-to-earth, sometimes unpredictable hosts for the channel, who actually care about the content put on the screen, and the worldwide producers/directors of the films who come from many religious backgrounds, countries, politics and walks of life.

there is the odd serious doc, whereby they look at world issues, and travel to places lke Iran, Tibet, Mexico, Brazil and look at serious issues that affect peoples living.

its always guna be personal taste, and every man to his own, but its definately a breathe of fresh air if your channel skipping, if not, ill post a blog on Takeshi's Castle.....always worth a mention haha
