rk's current buns. #2

The long awaited and overdue second current bun is finally here..
and this one's MAJOR.

The second blog
"Livestrong Armstrong"

To most of the blog members this will mean nothing, however i am hoping that it will appeal to some of the blog's external viewers. And so it begins..

On the eve of tuesday i heard speculative rumors about the return of Lance Armstrong, one of the most celebrated, respected and strongest competitors ever to have come out of the sport of cycling. A legend. I saw this information on the news-reel banner at the bottom of BBC 24 and being late at night, i barely took it in. It vaguely explained that Lance had re-registered with the Anti-Doping Agency meaning that after being under their careful watch for at least six months, he would be allowed to return to professional cycling once again. I thought nothing of it..

During midday wednesday the news was on once again, and i could hear its reports of fighting and war and economic instability humming in the background. None of these grabbed my attention, which is weird really; the way our society has become expectant and immune to such violent and up-turning stories. But anyway I'm on a positive thing at the moment so carrying on; I heard the sport editor being announced and immediately my attention was fixed..
Lance Armstrong has announced that he is coming out of retirement to race in the 2009 Tour De France. I was like.. WHAT?!?!?

Now to all cycling enthusiasts, (well you don't even have to be an enthusiast, just need to know a little about him or cycling) this is huge.
Lance Armstrong is to cycling as what breathing is to life. He is that significant within this sport. I defy anyone to talk about professional cycling without mentioning his name or one of his many achievements, and for him to return to cycling with intentions of winning his 8th, YES 8th, Tour De France at the age of 37, I say he deserves a medal already!
Lance stated: "I'm happy to announce that after talking with my children, family and closest friends, I have decided to return to professional cycling."
"It is in order to raise awareness of the global cancer burden."
"This year alone, nearly eight million people will die of cancer worldwide. It's now time to address cancer on a global level."

Lance's success did not come easily. As many know, he overcame an especially dangerous form of cancer which had targeted his liver, lungs, testicles and brain. Undergoing many operations, Lance had been at many times, very close to death. To every one's disbelief he fought through the pain and got back on the bike. As if this was not enough, he trained extremely hard to pull his body back to what it had been and went on to win seven Tours! Breaking any previous records held by such highly esteemed riders Eddy Merckx and Miguel Indurain, Lance Armstrong became cycling's greatest hero.

I could talk for days about Lance and this sport so i feel that i should bring this post to an end while you are still reading it.
I just hope that he can fulfill his dream in winning his 8th tour and in doing so raise awareness about the terrible disease of cancer. I think you can agree, he is truly an amazing man.

Show support to him, his foundation and the sport of cycling.
